"All citizens are equal before the law - the
humblest is the peer of the most powerful"
John Marshall Harlan-US Supreme Court 1877 |
Our Vision
In the early 90s, Ralph Yanello, a lawyer with years of experience, realized that the traditional delivery of legal services was inefficient and costly. And, because of these barriers, many well-meaning employers ended up in court because they didn't know how to navigate the complex web of employment laws.
So, Ralph started to research a new concept - how to make the law easy and affordable to access through automation. In 1994, he brought together a team of California lawyer-writers and programmers and formed LawRoom (first called LawLine).
The Challenge
We started building an employment law library from scratch. Beyond providing clear information, we tackled one more major challenge: how to instantly provide tailored answers that integrate the conflicting and overlapping requirements of California and federal laws into one answer.
It was a daunting task because it had never been done.
Undaunted, we developed proprietary software that carefully considers specific aspects of a company's profile. This allowed LawRoom to do something that no one else did or does today: instantly provide tailored answers based on the company's profile.
Our Growth and the Future
After spending 40,000 hours building the library and application--LawRoom launched an automated fax-back service for employers, and quickly realized that there was a new and more powerful way to deliver employment law compliance.
It was called the Internet.
In 2000, with only 400 members, we converted to the Internet, and never looked back. Then, in 2004 we added online training to our services. By 2010, we serviced over 50,000 member companies in all 50 states and trained over 2,300 companies on Anti-Harassment (AB 1825) and other employment law related subjects.
Our Goal
In providing weekly updates and customized answers to over 6,000 questions, coupled with training, our goal is to help employers and employees understand their legal rights and obligations. While we do not replace lawyers or offer legal advice, we do provide accurate, clear, and concise answers so that everyone can make more informed decisions. |
